What is BORG drinking? TikToker breaks down popular Gen Z trend

horminFebruary 16, 2023

TikTok is flooded with videos of students talking about the ‘BORG’ drinking trend – what is the trend about? Here is the meaning explained.

A new trend that is becoming more and more popular on college campuses has resurfaced on TikTok.

Videos of college students repurposing milk jugs for booze on the go have been trending in recent days, but many people have been confused by the definition of BORG.

So, what does BORG drink? Let’s find out what the viral trend really is.

What does BORG drink?

BORG stands for Blackout Rage Gallon. This is a drinking trend that first went viral during the pandemic and then recently resurfaced on TikTok.

This trend has become popular on campuses, with students filling empty milk jugs with a mixture of half water, half vodka, caffeinated drinks and flavor enhancers.

Some TikTok users have said that BORG’s personal jugs mean they know what drink they drink at parties and control their alcohol consumption.

In addition, you can personalize your own BORG and fill it with less alcohol or leave it completely alcohol-free.

TikToker breaks Gen Z trend

Erin Monroe, TikToker with 147,000 followers, took the resurgent trend step by step and showed how to make a BORG type drink.

“First, you have to decide what will be here,” she explained. “You get full control over it. This means that even if you don’t want to add liquor, you don’t need to. Secondly, it is a closed container.”

Erin continued, “So, as long as you keep the lid closed when you’re not actively consuming it, the risk of someone putting something in here that you don’t know about is greatly reduced. And finally, it is not communal.”

In the comment section, one user explained that BORG drinks became a “must” after the public culture of drinking disappeared during the pandemic.

Someone else wrote: “I wish we had invented the Borg when I was in college. Every time I learn more about Generation Z, I’m more and more amazed that I’ve lived this long.”

Experts warn against drunkenness

While this trend may be helpful to some, it is important to be aware of the risks of heavy drinking to measure alcohol consumption.

The NIAAA explains: “To avoid drinking and its consequences, college students (and all people who drink) are encouraged to track the number of drinks they drink over a period of time. That’s why it’s important to know exactly what counts as drinking.”
