BookTok has made reading trendy again. In fact, millions of books have been sold over the past few years thanks to him.
Books that say “TikTok made me buy this!” or use TikTok/BookTok to sell, in just the first four months of 2022, 2.2 million copies were sold in the UK alone – and some readings are particular favorites on the platform.
Aura Print has compiled two of the top 10 lists – one of the most popular books on TikTok and another with the most popular authors – by analyzing hashtag views and ranking them.
If you follow BookTok, then the most popular authors will definitely not shock you.
With 8.7 billion views on TikTok, Colleen Hoover takes the crown of most popular author, with two of her books in the top ten most popular books.
Since her hit “It’s Ending With Us” will be made into a movie starring Blake Lively as Lily Bloom, this isn’t much of a surprise.
In second place, with 1.8 billion views, was Sarah J. Maas, whose debut novel The Throne of Glass, which she published when she was only 16 years old, made it into the top ten most popular books.
The author has also written the incredible Court of Thorns and Roses series that turns into a TV show, and the Crescent City novels that have some pretty hot scenes.
Alice Osman is the third most popular author, Jennette McCurdy and Elle Kennedy also make the list.
But what are the most popular books on BookTok?
Top 10 Most Popular Books on TikTok
Topping the BookTok list of most popular books is Shadow and Bone by Lee Bardugo.
The first part of the trilogy, which tells about an orphan with a gift in the world of dark magic and the extreme levels of wealth and poverty, scored a staggering 14.1 billion views.
It has even been turned into a popular Netflix series.
Coming in second on the list is Heartstopper Alice Osman, who has amassed 9.5 million hashtag views on TikTok.
The LGBTQ+ graphic novel is the first in a series that follows the lives of two teenage boys in school life with themes of friendship, love and loyalty.
In third place is the sensational “Normal People” by Sally Rooney.
The book boasts 6.9 billion hashtag views on TikTok, ahead of Rooney’s debut novel Conversations with Friends.
“Normal People,” which you may know from the BBC adaptation featuring Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones, tells the story of two teenagers who come close to the end of their high school years and their struggles with romantic feelings.
Ah, the magical Colleen Hoover. The bestselling author has countless books that keep fans in her thrall.
Interestingly, Slammed is her most popular book on BookTok, ranking fourth on the list.
The 2012 novel boasts 2.8 billion views on the TikTok hashtag.
It Ends With Us is number five on the list and is another Hoover success.
The book became so popular on social media, with 2.2 billion views on TikTok, that despite being published way back in 2016, Colleen decided to write a follow-up (It Starts With Us) to appease fans.
Emily Henry’s Book Lovers has 1.9 billion views on TikTok and is an incredible romance about the enemies of lovers.
It depicts an exchange between Nora, a brilliant literary agent, and editor Charlie, who are each other’s sworn enemies.
But in a small town in North Carolina, the couple can’t seem to avoid each other, and a romance develops between them.
Another film by Lee Bardugo, Six of Crows, is the first in a duology to reach 1.6 billion views on TikTok.
This is a story about six outcasts and a robbery that seems impossible, combining elements of science fiction with action, adventure and emotion.
This gripping youth novel by Tahere Mafi ranks eighth on BookTok’s list of most popular titles.
The book has reached 1.4 million views on TikTok and received tons of praise.
The plot tells about life in a brutal dictatorship – “Restoration”, where the main character Juliet is a threat. Her touch can kill, making her the ultimate weapon.
We can’t say anything bad about fantasy queen Sarah J. Maas.
Her debut novel, Throne of Glass, ranks ninth on the list – with 1.3 billion views on TikTok, the series is a favorite in the book community.
Aelin is the ultimate assassin, warrior, and queen. We follow her through her war against the enemy, her romantic attachments and her epic battles.
Holly Black is also a master of the fantasy genre, and her The Cruel Prince is the first of several books in the series.
It has amassed 1.1 billion views for a good reason. In itself, Black’s world-building is impeccable.
