She explains that the stroller and backpack she is carrying are filled with groceries, and as she approaches the parked car in the driveway, she begins to express her frustration.
“This is something I face every single day,” she says.
“Every single day when I go shopping, some idiot parked on the sidewalk.”
Despite the fact that the car blocks access to the footpath, the woman manages to get around it without difficulty.
In the caption to the video, the Queensland mom explains that the stroller can tip over on its side due to the need to move across the grass to get around the car.
The next day, TikToker posted another video with examples of cars in her area that were parked above the footpath.
Combined, both videos have been viewed more than 160,000 times.
Many users in the comment section were divided on this issue, some stating that it was not a big deal.
“Wow, this must be sooooo hard for you,” wrote one person.
“It was the slightest inconvenience,” another user commented.
“It doesn’t take extra seconds to go around. If you are looking for things that annoy you, you will always find them,” wrote a third person.
However, many noted that cars parked above footpaths are more than just a minor inconvenience for people in wheelchairs.
One user wrote: “I used to work (in) a disability support service and my client wanted to go for a walk, we had to turn around because I couldn’t get past her wheelchair!”
“My mom is paralyzed and it’s actually a big problem,” another user commented.
“The number of people in this comment section who also don’t consider wheelchair users who can’t just ‘walk’ is actually worrying,” wrote another.
According to Queensland traffic law, it is forbidden to block access to the footpath and leave it.
The law states: “A driver must not stop on a road at a location that prevents vehicles or pedestrians from accessing or from a footpath ramp or similar method of accessing a footpath, cycle path, or walkway.”
The maximum fine for this offense is $2,875.
