When the weather seems arctic, the sun-drenched aurora seems like a distant dream.
But fake tan aficionados know that getting the perfect tan on your face is tricky when you’re using bottled sunlight.
But fear not, because TikTok has given us a simple hack that is so economical that it’s free.
You don’t need to buy new products. All you need is water and an instant tan.
And it’s easy: just mix one part tan and three parts water.
Then, using an eyedropper, apply a few drops to your face, spreading them evenly over the skin with a brush – just like you apply foundation. Then, when it dries, you can apply makeup directly on top.
TikToker Amelia Olivia said after the hack attempt: “Instant tan unlocked. I’m in seventh heaven with happiness. I just can’t stop looking at my face, it totally looks like I got tanned last night! Be sure to try this.”
Of course, we know that applying fake tan can be fraught with error, which is why we spoke to Rida Syed, Skinfluencer London Senior Cosmetic Physician, about how best to use this tip.
Rida said: “First and foremost, for any tanning product to look its best, make sure your skin is properly prepped by exfoliating and also well hydrated by applying hyaluronic acid and moisturizer if needed.
“For this particular trick, to ensure the mixture is evenly applied, I would recommend that you make sure your fake tan formulation is water based and not oil based so that it mixes easily with water.
“Also, if you want to use a tool like a beauty blender or brush to apply, make sure they are perfectly clean, otherwise they can transfer bacteria to your face, causing infection and disrupting the skin barrier.
“If you want to use your hands, make sure they’re clean beforehand and wash them right after to make sure they don’t stain.”
