Morgan Riddle was working a 9 to 5 before being knocked down by professional tennis player Taylor Fritz and landing right in the middle of the latest Netflix documentary Breakpoint.
The series, divided into two parts, follows the careers of the top 10 tennis players in the world as they battle it out on the infamous track.
Capturing the ups and downs, the cameras acted like flies on the wall and showed what life really was like when you were king or queen of the court.
For Taylor Fritz, the path to the eighth seed has not been easy, and his girlfriend Morgan knows it all too well.
In a diary entry that was revealed during the third episode, the blonde beauty shared the couple’s modern-day dating history and admitted that they met online before making it official in 2020.
Following her tennis beau around the world was an adaptation she made slowly as she initially found it difficult to work her corporate schedule with global tournaments.
One morning before a match, Morgan decided to play TikTok and filmed herself getting ready to sit in the players’ box.
Clicking download with no waiting, her video skyrocketed to the top of the For You app page, and before she knew it, a new career and way to stay close to her partner had landed in her lap.
She was now a powerful figure in WAG tennis, whether she liked it or not.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, the Minnesota native opened up about the “weird” changes she had to get used to in order to make her relationship work.
“When Taylor and I first started dating, he definitely didn’t get recognized at the airport and stuff, so I think for both of us it was… we sort of grew up to this together,” she explained.
Morgan shared her thoughts on her newfound influence: “I never had the desire to be an influencer.
“I was in Australia around this time last year and I had a job that I didn’t like very much. I knew I wanted to change something, but I was planning to quit this job and just find another corporate job.
“The day I quit my job, I did ‘get ready with me for my boyfriend’s tennis game’ on TikTok, just for fun.
“I was trying to choose an outfit, so I just threw this video away without even thinking. I went to bed that night, and when I woke up the next morning in Australia, the video had over a million views.
“So the next day I did another one, and then another one, and I’ve kind of been doing it ever since. Then I started getting brand deals and offers from companies for TikTok, and I just stuck with that and didn’t apply for other jobs.”
WAG’s glamorous life has long been in the spotlight and coveted by women everywhere, but for Morgan, whose boyfriend dominates the singles sport, things haven’t always been smooth sailing.
“It’s really lonely,” she admitted. “Taylor is busy training all day.
“You spend so much time alone and you really need to be — I think it’s probably specific to certain sports like tennis or golf — but if you’re traveling with a tennis player, you have to be a very independent person. because if not, then you’re in a hotel room all day.
“So I think it’s kind of a wake-up call for some people who start traveling – it’s lonely and you have to learn how to make friends while traveling.”
Supporting each other every step of the way, the couple’s career began to skyrocket, and when Taylor, playing tennis, saw him interact with the best of the best, Netflix knocked on the door.
“We found out about it, I think, two weeks before the Australian Open last year, and then they started filming us at the competition,” Morgan recalled.
She continued, “It happened very quickly. I think at first everyone was sort of on the fence about it. It was just weird to see Netflix film crews around tournaments and stuff when the tennis world is so small.
“I was a little worried about the show coming out because I didn’t see it ahead of time, but I liked the direction they took the show.
“They’ve really focused on tennis and the sport and mentally wrestling with it – it’s not like the Kardashians where they’re going to ignite stupid random drama for no reason.”
“I think they did a good job of presenting the reality of life on tour and that it’s not always super glamorous for people,” the 25-year-old influencer explained.
Being in the spotlight because of who she was dating might not be easy even at the best of times, but Morgan found a way to maintain her individuality by being wholeheartedly supportive of her jock boyfriend.
She shared how her social media presence has allowed her to battle loneliness while on tour and find time for herself: “I can’t control a lot of things in my life right now, so much revolves around it that I feel like the only thing. what I really have control over is my content.
“One of the reasons I wanted to start YouTube is because I think it gives people a little more information about who I am and about my life outside of it.
“I feel like people make a lot of assumptions about me or see a five second clip on TV at Wimbledon and go online and say really mean things and be super misogynist.
“So being able to make content and really show who I am helps me keep my identity off tour.”
Break Point is available to stream on Netflix now.
