LFO Member Was 47 – Billboard
Brian “Brizz” Gillis, founding member of beloved ’90s boy band LFO, passed away on Wednesday (March 29). He was 47 years old.
His former bandmate Brad Fischetti shared the news in an Instagram post. “Every story is made up of chapters. Some develop naturally. Some have to be cut in the mind. The first two chapters of the LFO story lost the main character yesterday. Brian ‘Brizz’ Gillis passed away,” he wrote alongside a black and white photograph of the musician, noting that he had no “details” related to the cause of his death.
“I’m really struggling to get over this tragic loss,” he continued. “I have said this before and will continue to say it; The history of the LFO is a tragedy. If you know what I’m doing, you know that I’m trying to bring light into the darkness. Trying to find redemption in pain and suffering. Trying to honor a legacy.”
Fischetti added: “My relationship with Brian was complicated. There were moments of great sorrow in her, but also moments of great joy. I learned a lot from him about the music business and how to put together and light shows. And these are the positive aspects of our relationship that I will build on now and forever.”
Gillies’ death comes nearly five years after the 2018 death of LFO singer Devin Lima, who lost his battle with stage 4 cancer at the age of 41, making Fischetti the only surviving member of the band.
The pop trio formed in 1995 in Massachusetts as the Lyte Funkie Ones before Gillis left the group in 1998 to pursue his own business and was replaced by Lima. The band disbanded in 2010 following the death of lead singer/songwriter Rich Cronin from leukemia, and then reunited without Gillis in 2017 as a duet featuring Lima and Fischetti.
“I know that soon, and maybe already Breeze will be greeted by Rich and Devin,” Fischetti concluded. “And I hope that together they will make pleasant sounds. I would really like that.”
