Fans Think It’s About Ex-Husband – Billboard
Kelly Clarkson did not play in her last Kellioke performance. The three-time Grammy winner sang a rousing cover of Gail’s viral hit “abcdefu” on The Kelly Clarkson Show Thursday (March 30), after which fans quickly noticed that she did a few emphatic lyrical changes that they believe are directed at her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
Right from the start, Clarkson made her own 2023 Grammy nominee, shouting out the altered lyrics as strobe lights and electric guitar raged behind her. “Forget about you and your father and the fact that you got half,” she sang, immediately moving away from the original words. “And my broken heart, turn this shit into art.”
The “Stronger” singer later repeated these lines instead of the song’s chorus, which usually goes: “Fuck you and your mom and your sister and your job/ And you broke your car and that shit you call art. ”
The lyrical change, especially “the fact you got half” seemed to be indicative of Clarkson’s high-profile 2022 divorce proceedings with Blackstock, whom she was married to from 2013 to 2020 – at least that’s what happened to fans who also noticed some additional passionate facial expressions and hand gestures Voice coach added to the new Kellioke cover. “List of fingers at the end, all raised eyebrows… we see and hear you @kellyclarkson” tweeted one a fan in response to a video of the performance.
“Oh, she’s really mad at Brandon!!” tweeted another.
“On the YouTube video page, more fans have shared their opinion that the singer is calling her ex.
“That you got half” – yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! wrote one viewer. “My broken heart, turn this shit into art – a new album is out!”
“Kelly gave Narvel and Brandon a big blast,” added another. Narvel is Blackstock’s father, producer and manager. The elder Blackstock had previously been married to Rebbe McIntyre for 26 years.
Billboard reached out to Clarkson’s representatives for comment.
Clarkson first filed for divorce from Brandon in June 2020. In December of that year, she was granted primary custody of their two children, River and Remington. Her vibrant new Kellyoke cover came out just days after Clarkson announced her next album. Chemistry, which does not yet have a confirmed release date. The recording will look at the difficult emotions she experienced after the end of a relationship and her adjustment to life as a single mother, as well as the evolution of her past relationships.
“I was trying to find a word, it could be one of the songs on the album, but I was trying to find a word that would really describe it all,” she said, announcing the project on Sunday (March 26). “I didn’t want everyone to think that I was just expressing some kind of“ I am angry ”,“ I am sad ”- just one or two emotions. This album is definitely the arch of all relationships.”
