Celebrating #WorldBookDay on BookTok | TikTok Newsroom

With over 126 billion views and 19 million posts to date, #BookTok has become a place where book lovers, writers, storytellers and educators from across the global TikTok community come together to celebrate the joy of immersing themselves in a great book and finding inspiration. to write your own stories. Whether it’s libraries joining the latest TikTok trend to imitate the children’s wonder of walking through the local library or raving about their “book boyfriend”, BookTok has brought us together to feel connected and rekindle our love of reading in ways we never expected.

In celebration of World Book Day on April 23rd, we share the people, places, stories, and trends in the BookTok community that entertain, inspire, and look forward to our next read.

BookTok Teams Up with Jenna Bush Hager for ‘Pass the Book’ Trend

To start our celebration, TODAY Show host and fellow bookworm @jenna_bushhager, along with @thedogearedbook, @brenlibny, @printbookstore, @kevintnorman and @tonyweaverjr, took to TikTok to launch the #PasstheBook trend, encouraging the BookTok community to publish their favorite books. Want to share your favorite book in honor of World Book Day? Support this video using the hashtags #WorldBookDay and #PasstheBook, or share your favorite book in the comments!

@playboymanbaby: Phoenix based multimedia artist, Playboy Manbaby got us rapping to his song “Public Library” where institutions like @pimacountlibrary joined in the fun to showcase what makes their library so great!

@stonemaidens: Lloyd Devereaux Richards became an overnight BookTok sensation after his daughter shared an inspiring story about how he never gave up on his writing dream while working full-time and raising kids. When he first published his novel, stone maidens sales dropped in 2012. Posted on TikTok, Lloyd’s story touched millions of viewers who flocked to support his story and bought his book, making it the #1 serial killer book and the #7 book overall on Amazon at the time the video went viral.

The BookTok community inspires, informs and entertains us

@tonyweaverjr: Tony Weaver Jr. is an award-winning storyteller known for sharing his love of anime and manga on TikTok. He is the creator UnCommonsaward-winning webcomic series, founder of Weird Enough Productions, a national non-profit organization, and was the first comic book writer to be selected for Forbes 30 Under 30. Tony reminds our community just how powerful it can be to truly be yourself!

@aymansbooks: Known for her comical take on avid readers, Ayman entertains us and informs us of the best romance novels to make friends with those vibrant Middle Eastern and South Asian storylines.

@lizzardbird: Elizabeth Nigro is a professional bookbinding artist for over eight years. She uses TikTok to share the behind-the-scenes process of creating her intricate bookbinding designs.

@kevintnorman: Kevin T. Norman is the creator of Queer Latinx in Los Angeles, who specializes in recommending books for the LGBTQIA+ community, including books about the transgender experience.
