Ben Affleck Gushes About Jennifer Lopez’s Support – Billboard
Ben Affleck is very grateful to his wife Jennifer Lopez. The actor gave an interview Hollywood Reporterposted on Thursday (March 16) and talked about the advice the “Let’s Get Loud” singer was able to give him after a difficult few years in the public eye.
When asked about his absence from social media and why he chooses to stay online, Affleck remarked, “My wife is a genius at this. I don’t know if there is anyone who understands Instagram better than she does.”
The two-time Oscar winner added that Lopez has come to several conclusions as to why he hides his life from prying eyes. “She thinks that because of the experience that I had, I became very cautious. And she’s right. I see these things as anti-personnel mines, where if you say one wrong thing, your career can be over, ”Affleck reflected. “I had a really painful experience doing interviews where I was very vulnerable and the whole pickup was not only wrong but actually the opposite of what I had in mind.”
The painful experience in question concerns Affleck’s appearance in 2021 on The Howard Stern Show, in which he linked his drinking to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Later that year, the actor clarified his comments during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!stating that the articles were promoted as “clickbait” and misrepresented his words by accusing his wife of drinking.
“To be clear, I am fully responsible for my behavior. What I was trying to convey was sad,” said a 50-year-old man in a new Hollywood Reporter interview. “I was trying to say, ‘Hey, look, I’ve been drinking too much, and the less happy you get, whether it’s your job, your marriage, just as your life gets harder, if you’re doing something to fill a hole that’s not healthy, you’ll start doing more of those things.”
However, Lopez supports him despite recent events. Affleck continued:[She] tells me today: “Relax, be yourself. Have fun. You’re actually a fun guy, real and sincere, and you seem so serious.” Do I sound serious? But like so many other things, she’s actually right. And she loves me. She is looking for me. She is trying to help me. So maybe I should fucking listen to her.”
Next up for Affleck is the release of his new self-directed drama. Air. The film, which follows sports executive Sonny Vaccaro and Nike in their quest to pursue basketball rookie Michael Jordan for one of the world’s most lucrative partnerships, is scheduled to premiere on March 18 at SXSW and in theaters on April 5.
